Energy Modeling

At Pathfinder, a significant area of expertise is our system analysis and modeling that we perform as part of our energy services. We focus on systems - how they function and interact as part of the building. This systems approach, as opposed to the traditional component approach often used in design, leads to a more complete and reliable understanding of the building – which is critical to the success of a detailed energy audit or energy model. Our modeling software allows us to verify and model equipment and systems operation.

As energy modeling software has developed and matured, we have incorporated energy modeling into all of our energy audit projects. Energy modeling is a key component in new design and major renovations, whether or not the owner chooses to pursue LEED certification.

Keeping up-to-date with the latest software and techniques is key to success with energy modeling. eQuest is a key tool for our energy modeling projects. We alos use VisualDOE, a graphical front end interface for DOE 2.1E. Our staff has been providing 3D modeling for nearly 20 years. Several staff have completed training with Ecotect software, a leading building analysis program that allows designers to work easily in 3D and apply all the tools necessary for energy efficiency and sustainability. One staff member is a Building Energy Modeling Professional, certified by ASHRAE.
